It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
