The January recruitment period proves to be a period of significant speculation and possible major moves. A number of prominent footballers are being connected to moves out of their present teams. We examine some of the key figures that are poised to be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, this has left the forward available, indications are a significant transfer is close. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a substantial release clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Recent developments indicate Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his contract set to run out in the summer, January is the London club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as City and multiple European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. However, a winter exit remains difficult, particularly given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Welsh forward has had first-team minutes limited at Spurs this term. Although being the side's top scorer last season, he has started only a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the North London club is willing to consider a sale for the correct valuation, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker could be set for a return to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just 28, while his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he is a possible bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça following the coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January exit looks increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven England striker has kept finding the net frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might enhance his dwindling chances of making the national squad. However, arranging a transfer poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any agreement difficult. Despite starring and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, this talented player has struggled for game time on loan at Aston Villa. The manager has confirmed the loan move won't be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool prior to next summer seems to be the sole available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkish attacker has been in fine form for the Italian giants this season. As his current contract running down, a host of Premier League clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major transfer in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong competition from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
